It is effective as a preventive treatment for acne wounds that has the potential develop into keloids. It has been used in medicine for centuries both topically as well as systemically for wound healing as well as fighting leprosy. Centella contains Vallejin, a bitter principle, and a mixture of Triterpenoid glycosides - the most abundant being these active principles that dissolves the waxy coating of the bacillus that causes leprosy and skin tuberculosis and the Asiaticosides also help heal skin lesions by promoting an increased blood supply to the connective tissue. Centella Asiatica has long been recognised for its healing activity. The principal modes of action of GK Cream ointment are related to the ability of Centella Asiatica to influence the inflammatory process in the wound healing cascade and its ability to promote Type 1 and Type 3 collagen balance. The immature thickened wound is characterised by a prolonged inflammatory stage and an abundance of Type 3 collagen. The promotion of Type 1 collagen production and the winding down of the inflammatory process is directly influenced by Centella Asiatica, as manifested by improved wound healing and scar formation. This inflammatory modulation property of Centella Asiatica may stop the conversion of the myofibroplasts, the cell type known to be associated with thickened, keloid type scars. To maintain purity, we use fresh Centella Asiatica leaves. The GK Cream regulates the production and formation of collagen fibres. It is often used on recent scars to prevent and control the proliferation of scar tissues. The GK Cream is applied over the fresh scar on a twice daily basis to hydrate and moisturise the area while enhancing wound healing. The process should continue until maturity of the scar is evident as demonstrated by whitening of the scar and relief symptoms such as itching. This may take up to 6 months. The GK Cream also works well with the Orange Peel to soften and smoothen rough, pitted skin caused by acne. Note: The GK Cream has limited effect on mature keloids. [ Instructions ] Apply to the affected area after wound cleaning and antisepsis, 1-2 times daily or as required. [ Qualities of GK Cream] The constituents of Centella Asiatica include essential oil, sterols, flavonol glycosides, polyalkynes and saponins. Centella Asiatica has great antibacterial, anti-psoriatic, and wound-healing properties Laboratory tests proved that it contains compounds that exert a balancing effect on connective tissue. The net effect is improved function and integrity of the collagen matrix and supportive structures leading to remarkable wound healing activity. When Centella Asiatica was used in treatment of patients with second or third degree burns, the results were excellent. The extract prevented or limited the shrinkage and swelling of the skin caused by infection and inhibited scar formation, increasing healing and reducing fibrosis. Centella Asiatica is also helpful in treating arthritis, tension and varicose veins, but more importantly for skincare - it increases the tensile integrity of the dermis (hardens the skin), increases Keratinization of the dermis and balancing effect on connective tissue.
